  DOS Art

In the mid-90's I wrote a number of DOS-based, graphic-oriented computer programs using MS QuickBasic which I found to have an interesting graphics module. The output of these programs is an 8 x 6 grid (48 squares) where the contents of each square is randomly generated colors and geometric shapes. The program repeats several times each minute, sometimes refreshing the square or sometimes overlaying the new image upon the current square (and sometimes not). Not all randomly generated images are of equal beauty; my interest developed toward capturing and retaining 'exceptional screens.' The links below are a few of the selected images which have also been imported into a graphics program and framed or further enhanced. Alternate versions are generally the output from further activity within the graphics program—alternate versions are sometimes the result of arithmatic blendings of two or more images, or, selectively replacing selected squares with images taken from DOS art, DOS art squares which have been manipulated via the graphics program, or other images cropped to fit the grid.
