Something Akin to This

We took a summer trip to Arizona a few years back, which required driving down most of western Nevada
on the way to Tonopah and the unexpected spectacle of Las Vegas. During this stretch I was in awe with
the landscape, the wonderful barrenness of the large expanse and the distant vistas of the Great Basin. Plus,
there was a lot of uninterrupted time to just sit there and look at it while racing madly on.
Vacations end: we get back home, look at the photos, return to work wishing it had lasted much, much, much longer.
Shortly thereafter I painted Something Akin to This, an overly simple landscape which displays the cunning limits of my skills.
Several years later I began using it frequently as one of two or more layers mathmatically constructed
as digital blendings. Each link below features the painting as a primary source. For a quick look click on
